CELPIP answer templates are structured response frameworks for Speaking and Writing tasks. Each template outlines what to include in your opening, body, and closing so you can organize your response quickly under time pressure. Templates do not provide pre-written answers. They give you a repeatable structure that you fill in with your own ideas and language for each unique prompt.
No. Memorizing templates word for word can make your response sound rehearsed, which hurts your score. Instead, internalize the structure: for emails, open with a greeting, address each bullet point in order, and close appropriately. For Speaking, state your point, support it with reasons or examples, then wrap up. Practice until the flow feels automatic so you can focus on content rather than structure. Prometric's policy is that memorised or copied content can invalidate a result; our page on memorised templates and test integrity quotes it in full and shows where the line sits.
Yes. CELTESTPIP provides templates for both Writing tasks (Task 1: emails, Task 2: survey responses) and all 8 Speaking tasks: giving advice, describing a personal experience, describing a scene, making predictions, comparing and persuading, handling a difficult situation, expressing an opinion, and describing an unusual situation. Each template is specific to its task type.
Not when used correctly. Templates provide structure, not scripted language. You fill in the content with your own vocabulary and ideas. CELPIP examiners score responses on coherence and organization, and a well-structured response with clear sections scores higher than a disorganized one. The key is practicing enough that the structure becomes natural rather than forced.
Templates directly improve two CELPIP scoring criteria: coherence (logical flow of ideas) and task fulfillment (addressing everything the prompt asks). A structured response with a clear opening, body, and closing earns higher marks than a rambling one. Templates also improve time management by eliminating the need to plan your structure during the test, leaving more time for content.
Yes, within the same task type. For example, the Speaking Task 1 template (giving advice) works for any advice scenario, whether the prompt is about choosing a school or planning an event. The structure stays the same: acknowledge the situation, provide advice with reasons, and conclude. You learn one template per task type and apply it to any prompt in that category.
Start by reading the template and understanding the purpose of each section. Then use it to respond to a practice question. Compare your response to our CELPIP Writing Task 1 samples with answers or our Task 2 survey sample answers, each shown at Level 7, 9 and 10. Repeat with different prompts until the structure becomes automatic. You have internalized the template when you no longer think about what comes next and can focus entirely on your ideas.
