What is a CELPIP mock test and what's inside one?

A CELPIP mock test is a complete run of all four skills under real test conditions: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, timed section by section, in the same order and format as the official exam. The point is not just to answer questions. It is to sit for roughly three hours, feel the clock, and see how your score holds up when you are tired at task six of Speaking, not fresh at task one.

Each full mock test on CELTESTPIP contains every section in its complete form. Here is what one test covers.

SectionParts or tasksQuestionsTime
Listening6 parts38 questions47 to 55 minutes
Reading4 parts38 questions55 to 60 minutes
Writing2 tasksabout 150 to 200 words each53 to 60 minutes
Speaking8 tasks8 spoken responses15 to 20 minutes

That comes to about 3 hours, the same length as the real thing. Paragon Testing, the company that owns CELPIP, publishes these section timings on its official test format page at celpip.ca. If you want the format broken down part by part before you sit a full test, read our complete CELPIP test format guide, which lays out all four sections at a glance.

How many CELPIP mock tests does CELTESTPIP have?

CELTESTPIP has more than 60 full-length CELPIP mock tests, each with its own questions across all four skills. That is the largest CELPIP mock test library you will find in one place, and Pro members can take every one of them with no cap on attempts or resubmissions.

These are not recycled demos. The most-used tests have been taken tens of thousands of times each, so the item difficulty and answer keys have been sat by real candidates, not just written and shelved. If you are working through a study plan over several weeks, having 60 distinct tests means you never have to re-take one you have already seen and memorized, which is the fastest way to fool yourself into a score you cannot repeat on test day.

Is there a free CELPIP mock test?

Not a full one, no. The 60+ complete three-hour mock tests are a Pro feature. What you can do for free is practice each section on its own, as much as you like, and submit three answers for AI scoring at no cost. If you want to drill single questions rather than sit a full exam, start with the practice question bank.

Plenty of "free full CELPIP mock test" pages give you one thin test, ask for your email, and then wall off everything useful. If your budget is tight, the honest free path is this: drill the sections one at a time with free CELPIP questions, then practice each skill on its own hub for Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.

Are these CELPIP General mock tests?

Yes. Every mock test here follows the CELPIP General format: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, in the real order and with the real timing. If you are taking CELPIP General LS, use the Listening and Speaking sections on their own.

What does a CELPIP practice test look like?

Here is one real question from a full mock test so you can see the format before you start. This is a Reading for Information item, the kind that scores instantly.

Passage extract: A community centre notice states that the pottery studio will be closed for renovations from March 3 to March 17. Registered members can use the partner studio on Elm Street at no extra cost during that period.

**Question: What can registered members do while the pottery studio is closed?

A. Get a refund for the closed period

B. Use the Elm Street studio for free C. Book private renovation tours D. Nothing until March 17

**Answer: B. The notice says members "can use the partner studio on Elm Street at no extra cost," so free access to the Elm Street studio is the only option the text supports. A, C, and D are never stated, and CELPIP Reading rewards the answer the passage actually backs up, not the one that sounds reasonable.

Listening and Reading items like this are multiple choice and score the moment you finish. Writing and Speaking work differently: you submit your response and CELTESTPIP returns an AI CLB estimate within seconds, with feedback on each scoring criterion so you know exactly where you lost marks instead of guessing.

How is a CELPIP mock test scored, and what CLB do I need?

CELPIP reports each of the four skills on a scale of 1 to 12, aligned to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), the national standard IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) uses to read your results. Listening and Reading are scored right or wrong. Writing and Speaking are judged on four criteria: Content and Coherence, Vocabulary, Readability or Listenability, and Task Fulfillment.

What score you actually need depends on why you are taking the test.

Your goalMinimum CLBSource
Federal Skilled Worker, first official languageCLB 7 in each skillIRCC Express Entry
Maximum CRS language points, Express EntryCLB 9 or higher in each skillIRCC Express Entry
Canadian citizenship, ages 18 to 54CLB 4 in Speaking and ListeningIRCC citizenship

CLB 7 in all four abilities is the Federal Skilled Worker floor and also covers the Canadian Experience Class for TEER 0 or 1 jobs, per the IRCC Express Entry language test rules. Push to CLB 9 or higher in every skill and you earn the maximum CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) language points, which is often the difference between an invitation and another six months in the pool. For citizenship, you only need CLB 4 in Speaking and Listening if you are 18 to 54, and there is no Reading or Writing requirement, per the IRCC citizenship language proof rules.

This is a summary, not the full picture. For the exact raw-score to CLB bands by skill, and how the numbers convert, see CELPIP scores for Canadian immigration and the Reading score chart.

How should I use mock tests to prepare?

Start with one full mock test under real timed conditions before you do anything else, so you get an honest baseline in each skill instead of a hopeful guess. Then work section by section. For Listening and Reading, read the explanation for every question you missed and look for the pattern: is it always the viewpoint questions, always the inference, always the ones where you ran out of time? For Writing and Speaking, read the AI feedback criterion by criterion and fix the one costing you the most marks first.

Drill your weakest sections with focused practice, then come back and take another full mock. Do at least two or three complete three-hour tests before your real test date. This is as much about stamina as skill. The candidates who crash are usually the ones who practiced in 20-minute bursts and then hit a wall at hour two of the real exam.

Can I pause and resume a CELPIP practice test?

Yes, you can pause a practice test and resume it later, and every section runs on a real exam timer so you build pacing. That said, do at least some of your mocks in one uninterrupted sitting. The real CELPIP test runs about three hours with no breaks, and the only way to train for that is to actually do it once or twice before test day, timer running, phone away.

Start a full mock exam when you are ready for the full three-hour rehearsal, or keep building with free CELPIP questions first.

CELPIP Mock Test FAQ

What is a CELPIP mock test and what's inside one?

A CELPIP mock test is a full-length, timed practice test covering all four skills in real exam format: Listening (6 parts, 38 questions, 47 to 55 minutes), Reading (4 parts, 38 questions, 55 to 60 minutes), Writing (2 tasks, 53 to 60 minutes), and Speaking (8 tasks, 15 to 20 minutes). Total time is about 3 hours, the same as the official CELPIP General test.

How many CELPIP mock tests does CELTESTPIP have?

CELTESTPIP has more than 60 full-length CELPIP mock tests, each with unique questions across all four skills. Pro members can take all of them with no limit on attempts or resubmissions.

Is there a free CELPIP mock test?

Full mock exams are a Pro feature, but section practice is free with no signup, the first item of each part is open, and you get 3 free AI-scored Writing or Speaking submissions. For a fully free path, drill the free question bank and the four section hubs, then use a Pro full mock closer to your test date.

How is a CELPIP mock test scored, and what CLB do I need?

Each skill is scored 1 to 12 on the Canadian Language Benchmarks. Listening and Reading are right or wrong; Writing and Speaking are judged on Content and Coherence, Vocabulary, Readability or Listenability, and Task Fulfillment. Federal Skilled Worker applicants need CLB 7 in each skill, CLB 9 or higher earns maximum Express Entry language points, and Canadian citizenship needs CLB 4 in Speaking and Listening for ages 18 to 54.

How should I use mock tests to prepare?

Take one full timed mock first for a baseline, then review section by section: explanations for missed Listening and Reading items, AI feedback for Writing and Speaking. Drill your weakest sections, then take another full mock. Sit at least two or three complete tests before test day to build three-hour stamina.

Can I pause and resume a CELPIP practice test?

Yes, you can pause and resume, and every section is timed. Still, do at least some mocks in a single uninterrupted sitting, because the real test runs about three hours with no breaks and stamina is part of what you are training.
