How Much Does CELPIP Cost in 2026? Fees, Refunds & More

CELPIP-General costs $299 CAD plus tax in Canada and CELPIP-General LS costs $199 CAD plus tax as of 2026. Tax is added at your province's rate, so an Ontario test taker pays about $337.87 in total. Your first reschedule is free, and cancelling seven or more days before your test returns 50% of the fee.

How much does the CELPIP test cost in Canada in 2026?

Two fees, depending on which test you book.

Both figures come from the live booking prices shown against real test dates in Paragon Testing's test date finder at celpip.ca. Paragon owns and administers CELPIP. Tax is added on top of these numbers, not included in them.

Be careful with the older figures, because they are everywhere. The General fee was $280 until 1 October 2024, then $290, and several of Paragon's own information pages still print $290 or $295 today. Almost every CELPIP blog still says $290. Only the LS fee has stayed at $199 through those changes, which is exactly why the wrong General price looks plausible sitting next to a right LS price.

The number beside your test date in the booking list is the one that binds. Not a blog, and not an information page. Check it when you pick your date, because a $9 surprise at checkout is a bad way to start test day.

What will you actually pay after tax?

This is the number nobody publishes, and it is the one that leaves your bank account.

Tax on the CELPIP fee is charged at the GST or HST rate for the province where you test. The tables below apply the current federal rates published by the Canada Revenue Agency to both test fees.

CELPIP-General, $299 before tax

CELPIP-General LS, $199 before tax

Two honest notes on these totals. Rates change, and recently: Nova Scotia dropped to 14% on 1 April 2025, so any total you find quoting 15% for Nova Scotia was written before that. You can check the current rate for your province on the Canada Revenue Agency's rate page.

Second, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec each run a separate provincial sales tax alongside the 5% GST, and whether it lands on an exam fee depends on how that province classifies the service. Treat the totals above as your floor, not your ceiling, and read the amount on the checkout screen before you confirm.

Do you need the $299 test or the $199 one?

One hundred dollars separates these two tests, and people pick wrong in both directions. The rule is simple: buy the test your application actually accepts.

If you are applying for permanent residence, you need CELPIP-General at $299. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) lists CELPIP-General as the accepted English test for Express Entry, and every Express Entry program scores all four skills. The Federal Skilled Worker Program asks for CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) 7 in your first official language and CLB 5 in your second. Canadian Experience Class asks for CLB 7 in TEER 0 and 1 jobs, CLB 5 in TEER 2 and 3. Your results must be less than two years old when you submit, which is a deadline worth pricing into your decision.

If citizenship is your only goal, CELPIP-General LS at $199 is enough. IRCC accepts either CELPIP-G or CELPIP-G LS as proof of language for citizenship and asks for level 4 or higher in listening and speaking only. That requirement applies if you are 18 to 54 years old. There is no reading or writing requirement, so paying the extra $100 buys you two sections your application will never look at.

The trap runs the other way too. If there is any chance you will apply for PR later, the LS test will not carry over, and you will pay $199 now and $299 again afterwards. What is included in your registration fee?

More than most people assume, and this matters because several sites still sell add-ons that no longer exist.

Your fee covers the test sitting itself, the scoring of every section you took, and your Official Score Report as a PDF in your CELPIP Account. Sending your scores to IRCC costs nothing. You download the PDF report from your account and submit it with your application, and Paragon publishes no fee for that step anywhere.

Hard copy score reports have been discontinued. If you find a page telling you additional paper reports cost $20 each, that page is out of date. There is nothing to buy.

Can you reschedule your CELPIP test, and what does it cost?

Your first transfer is free. Paragon's policies state that the first transfer costs nothing and the subsequent transfer fee is CAD $50 or equivalent, plus applicable taxes.

If you test in India, the deadline is nine calendar days, not seven. Paragon's India page sets a nine day window for both transfers and cancellations. Almost no guide mentions this, and it is exactly the kind of two day gap that costs somebody a full fee.

On requests made inside the deadline, be careful with what you read elsewhere. Several sites state flatly that you forfeit the fee. What Paragon actually publishes is that you should contact customer service, and that it may in its discretion require you to support the request with appropriate documentation. That is not a promise, but it is not an automatic loss either. Call before you write the money off.

Practical advice, and this is my own view rather than a Paragon rule: if you are unsure about a date, book it anyway. Test seats in busy cities disappear, and a free first transfer is a better position than waiting and losing your preferred week. Can you get a refund if you cancel CELPIP?

Half your money back, and only if you move early.

Paragon's cancellation policy grants a refund of fifty percent when the request arrives at least seven calendar days before the test session, and no refund at all when it arrives inside that window. In India, that seven day line is nine days.

Read the two policies together and one thing follows. On a $299 test, cancelling gets you $147.50 back, while transferring costs you nothing at all the first time. If there is any chance you will want that date back, reschedule instead of cancelling. Cancelling is what you do when you have decided not to sit the test at all.

How much does a CELPIP re-evaluation cost?

Paragon does not publish the amount. Its official wording is that you must pay a re-evaluation fee at the time of your application that depends on which components you want re-evaluated. Any site quoting you a firm $55 or $110 has made that number up or copied someone who did. You will see the real figure in your CELPIP Account when you apply.

What Paragon does publish is worth knowing:

• You can apply within six months of your test date
• There is a limit of one re-evaluation per component
• Results come back in approximately one to two weeks
• If your level increases on a re-evaluated component, the fee for that component is refunded

That last point changes the maths. A re-evaluation is not a straight gamble, because a successful one costs you nothing in the end. If your Writing or Speaking result sits one band below what your application needs and the rest of your profile is strong, it deserves serious thought before you book a whole new test at full price.

How long do CELPIP results take, and can you pay to speed them up?

Scores are available in your CELPIP Account in 2 to 4 business days. Business days exclude weekends and holidays, so a Friday test can realistically land the following Wednesday or Thursday.

There is nothing to pay for faster results, and you should not budget for it. Older guides describe an Express Rating service at around $100, and that service no longer appears anywhere in Paragon's current published material. With standard results arriving in 2 to 4 business days, there is very little left for a paid express option to do. If a page tries to sell you one, check its date.

What does it cost to retake CELPIP?

The full fee, every time. There is no discount for a second attempt and no cap on the number of attempts.

The only rule is spacing: you may register for no more than one test session within five calendar days. Beyond that, you can sit CELPIP as often as you can pay for it.

Here is the arithmetic people avoid doing. Two attempts at CELPIP-General is $598 before tax, which is $675.74 in Ontario. Add a rushed cancellation you did not get back and you are past $700 for one score. Most of the people I teach who end up there did not fail because their English was weak. They ran out of time in Writing Task 1, misread the register in Speaking Task 4, or wrote a memorized template that a rater recognized on sight.

How can you avoid paying for CELPIP twice?

Book the test when your practice scores say you are ready, not when your anxiety says you cannot wait any longer.

That sounds obvious and almost nobody does it, because most preparation gives you no honest signal. Reading through sample answers feels like progress and tells you nothing about what you would produce with a timer running. The only useful evidence is a scored, timed attempt.

Three things worth doing before you spend $299:

1. Sit a full timed mock. Not one section, the whole thing, in one sitting. Timer panic is a scoring problem, not a nerves problem, and it only shows up under full length conditions.
2. Get Writing and Speaking scored. These are the two sections where a confident test taker is most often wrong about their own level. How do you pay for CELPIP?

Paragon accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express online. Payments run through Stripe globally and through CC Avenue in India. Money orders are accepted for minors in Canada only, payable to Paragon Testing Enterprises Inc.

Outside Canada, fees are set in local currency and vary by country, and Paragon states plainly that the Canadian price is the Canadian price and international pricing will vary. We do not publish a country by country table, because Paragon does not publish one either, and every figure you see quoted for India, Nigeria or Australia on prep blogs traces back to somebody's estimate rather than to a source.
