What study materials do you need for the CELPIP test?

You need less than most people think, and you need it in a specific order.

Start with the format, because you cannot practise a test you cannot picture. CELPIP-General runs four sections: Listening at 46 to 55 minutes across 6 parts with 38 questions, Reading at 43 to 56 minutes across 4 parts with 38 questions, Writing at 53 minutes for 2 tasks, and Speaking at 15 minutes for 8 tasks. If you are taking CELPIP-General LS for citizenship, you sit Listening and Speaking only, which the official Guidebook for Test Takers puts at about an hour in one sitting.

Then you need a method for each task type. Twenty task types sounds like a lot until you see that each one repeats the same shape every single test. Speaking Task 1 is always advice. Writing Task 2 is always a survey response. Once you have a structure you trust for each shape, you stop inventing an approach under a countdown clock, which is where most points get lost.

After that, practice. Timed, scored, and honest about the result. Reading a guide about Speaking Task 3 and actually talking for 60 seconds about a picture are different skills, and only the second one is on the test.

Last comes the score chart. A raw score means nothing to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). A CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) level does, and IRCC sets its minimums in CLB. Check what your target program actually asks for before you decide how hard to push, because the gap between CLB 7 and CLB 9 is months of work and thousands of Comprehensive Ranking System points.

Practice is a different thing, and I would rather tell you the line than have you find it later. One question in each of the 20 CELPIP task types is free on our question bank, with no payment and no card. You also get the complete Reading Part 1 set, all 11 questions with the answer key, and three graded Writing Task 1 sample responses at different score levels. That free tier is deliberately shaped to do one job: give you an honest baseline. Sit one question from each task type and you will know within half an hour which two sections are actually costing you points. Most people are wrong about which ones those are.

Paragon, the company behind the test, also publishes genuinely free material of its own. I have listed exactly what it gives away further down this page.

Where should you start if you have four weeks?

Take a diagnostic first, then spend three of the four weeks on your two weakest sections. Spreading effort evenly across four skills is the most common planning mistake I see, and it is why people retake.

Week one is format and diagnosis. Read the complete CELPIP test format guide, then answer one free question from each of the 20 task types and write down your reaction to each. Confusion and panic are data.

Weeks two and three are your two weak sections, worked task by task with a template in front of you. If Writing is one of them, the two writing task templates below are the fastest single fix on this site. If Speaking is one of them, work the eight task templates in order rather than jumping to whichever looks hardest.

What official CELPIP materials does Paragon give you for free?

Four things, and you should download all of them before you pay anyone for anything. Paragon Testing Enterprises writes and scores the CELPIP test, so its own material is the closest thing to seeing the real paper.

Two honest limits on the free official sets. Two practice tests will not carry you through four weeks of preparation, and a practice test tells you your score without telling you why you lost the points. That gap is the reason this library exists, and it is the reason we score Writing and Speaking answers rather than only marking them.
