CELPIP Books and Study Materials (2026): What Is Worth Using
The only CELPIP books written by the test maker, the official free materials, how to judge any other book, and what no book can do. For the 2026 test.

The only CELPIP books written by the people who write the test are the official CELPIP study guides and e-books sold on the CELPIP store. Everything else is third-party, and nobody checked it against the real test. Start with the free official materials, add one official guide if you want a book, and spend the rest on timed practice.
That is the short answer I give every student who asks "which CELPIP book should I buy?". The longer answer below lists what the test maker actually publishes, what is free, how to judge any other book in thirty seconds, and the three things a book cannot do for you.
If you want to find out where you stand before you buy anything, answer one CELPIP question in every part, free. The result tells you which skill needs the book.
Who writes the official CELPIP study materials?
CELPIP itself. The test is owned and administered by Paragon Testing Enterprises, now part of Prometric, and the same organisation publishes the official study guides, practice tests and study packs. When a book says "official", that is the only publisher the word can mean.
This matters more for CELPIP than for most tests. CELPIP has a specific format, with 8 Speaking tasks, 2 Writing tasks, 4 Reading parts and 6 Listening parts, and the official materials are the only ones built from the real question specifications. A third-party author is guessing from the outside, sometimes well, sometimes not.
Which CELPIP study materials are free?
More than most people realise, and all of it comes straight from CELPIP. The July 2026 CELPIP Guidebook for Test Takers and CELPIP's prep overview page list these free resources:
| Free resource | What it is | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 2 free practice tests | "2 complete online sample tests with answer keys and Listening transcripts" | celpip.ca, after a short sign-up form |
| Free online sample test | A shorter walk-through of the format and question types, with an answer key | celpip.ca |
| CELPIP Guidebook for Test Takers | The official PDF on format, scoring, booking, fees and policies | celpip.ca, PDF download |
| CELPIP Overview for Test Takers | A one-page PDF summary of the test (CELPIP's own file is named as a one-pager) | celpip.ca, PDF download |
| Study packs | Free PDFs for each section (an overview pack, plus Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking packs) with timing and question types, plus rated sample answers in the Writing and Speaking packs | celpip.ca blog and webinar pages |
| CELPIP Score Comparison Chart | "Downloadable PDF lists of required skills for each CELPIP Level in Writing and Speaking" | celpip.ca, PDF download |
| CELPIP Webinars | Live, interactive lessons that cover test content, prep strategies, scoring and sample responses; recordings on YouTube | celpip.ca, registration |
| CELPIP Accelerate Starter | "A free sample of our full Accelerate course, automatically provided to registered test takers" | Your CELPIP account after booking |
| CELPIP Live, the Official CELPIP Podcast, Instagram AMAs | Livestreams, audio episodes and Q&A sessions with CELPIP presenters | YouTube, podcast apps, Instagram |
Two of these are worth more than any book. The study packs show you the approximate timing (CELPIP's own label) and the question types for each section, and the Writing and Speaking packs include rated sample answers, so you can see what a real Level 9 looks like. The free practice tests are the closest thing to sitting the real test, which is why I tell every student to save them for a full timed run, not for casual reading.
Note that CELPIP's free practice tests sit behind a short form asking for your name, email and test type. That is normal. Our own free practice works the same way: you sign up, then the first question in every part and task is yours to practise.
Which CELPIP books and materials does CELPIP sell?
Six products, all sold through CELPIP's online store. The 2026 Guidebook lists the paid materials below. Prices are not printed in the Guidebook; it points you to its study materials page and the online store, so check there for current prices before you buy.
| Official paid product | What CELPIP says it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| CELPIP Study Guides | E-books on what to expect in every part of the test: timing, scoring, skills, strategies and practice exercises with guided explanations | A reader who wants a book-shaped course |
| CELPIP Focus | Interactive e-books that explain the format and structure of the test, with practice questions and "CELPIP-focused skill-building activities" | Working through skills exercise by exercise |
| Common CELPIP Errors | "Ebook that discusses 30 commonly made grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and speaking mistakes" | Writing and Speaking candidates stuck one level below target |
| Online Practice Tests | "Complete online tests sold in sets of 2, with Listening transcripts and detailed answer keys"; one test in each set includes sample Writing and Speaking responses with analysis | Full timed runs once the free ones are used up |
| CELPIP Practice and Analysis | "A complete practice test, plus detailed analysis of the Listening and Reading questions", with sample Writing and Speaking responses analysed | Anyone who wants one full test with every answer explained |
| CELPIP Accelerate | A self-directed online course of videos, quizzes and worksheets, with a complete practice test for each language component | Someone who wants one structured course from start to finish |
If you are going to buy one thing, buy the one that matches your weakest skill, not the biggest bundle. A Reading candidate scoring 7 who needs 9 gets more from Practice and Analysis than from a Speaking guide, however good the guide is.
How do you judge any other CELPIP book?
Four checks, thirty seconds each. Dozens of CELPIP books exist on Amazon and Indigo. Some are careful, some are copied from forums, and the cover will not tell you which. Before you pay, check:
- Who published it? If the publisher is not CELPIP, Paragon or Prometric, it is third-party. That is not a reason to reject it, but it is a reason to verify any fact about timing, word counts or scoring against the official Guidebook before you rely on it.
- When was it written, and for which format? The test is 46 to 55 minutes of Listening, 43 to 56 minutes of Reading, 53 minutes of Writing and 15 minutes of Speaking, in that order, on a computer. A book that gives different numbers is describing an older test, or a different one.
- Does it explain the answers? A practice test with an answer key tells you what you got wrong. One with explanations tells you why, and the why is the part that raises your score.
- Does it have audio for Listening, and a way to time Speaking? Listening passages play once in the real test. A book with printed transcripts and no audio cannot train that, and a book cannot run a clock while you talk.
Reviews help less than you would expect, because most reviewers have not yet taken the test when they write them. The format table in the official Guidebook is the fastest truth check you have.
What can a CELPIP book not do?
Time you, score you, or hear you. Those three are where most CELPIP scores are lost, and a book cannot help with any of them:
- Timing. Each Reading part runs on its own clock (about 11, 9, 10 and 13 minutes), the test moves you forward when a part ends, and you cannot go back. In my experience, most people who miss their target in Reading ran out of time in one part, not out of English. You only learn pacing by practising on a clock.
- Writing feedback. Writing is rated on Content/Coherence, Vocabulary, Readability and Task Fulfillment. A book can show you a good email, but it cannot tell you which of the four your email is losing.
- Speaking. You cannot hear your own pauses while you are speaking. You need a recording and something, or someone, that listens back with you.
That is the part CELTESTPIP was built for. Every course here is free: there is a free CELPIP course for each skill, plus vocabulary. After you sign up, the first question in all 20 parts and tasks is free, with the real clock, the answer key, and AI feedback on the four criteria for Writing and Speaking. The templates for every Writing and Speaking task replace the phrase lists most books sell.
What CELPIP study materials does CELTESTPIP offer?
Free lessons for every skill, free practice with feedback, and templates for every task. Since this is our site, treat this section as a list, not a review. Everything here except full mock tests and the rest of the question bank is free after a sign-up.

The honest comparison with the official materials: CELPIP's materials tell you what the test is, from the people who write it. Ours exist to make you practise it, on a clock, with feedback, as many times as you need. Use both.
What is the best CELPIP study plan with these materials?
Official materials for the facts, timed practice for the score. A plan that works for most of my students:
| Week | Materials |
|---|---|
| 1 | Read the official Guidebook format section and the study pack for your weakest skill. Answer the free first question in all 20 parts and tasks to find your real level. |
| 2 and 3 | Work through the free courses for your two weakest skills. Use one official e-book here if you want a book. Record every Speaking task at least twice. |
| 4 | Sit one of CELPIP's free practice tests in one go, on the clock. Review every wrong answer. Fix the pattern, not the question. |
If you have less than a month, the last-minute CELPIP study plan compresses the same idea into one or two weeks. If you have longer, the 4-week CELPIP study plan gives you the day-by-day version.
Buy less, practise more. The official materials tell you what the test is; the clock and the feedback tell you how you are doing on it. Good luck.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official CELPIP book?
Yes. CELPIP publishes its own study guides and e-books, listed in the CELPIP Guidebook for Test Takers and sold on the CELPIP store. The study guides are e-books, not printed books.
Are CELPIP study materials free?
Many are. CELPIP's own Guidebook lists two free practice tests, free webinars, a free score comparison chart, a free starter version of its Accelerate course, and its free study packs for each section. CELPIP's prep pages add a free online sample test. All of them come from celpip.ca.
Is there a CELPIP practice test PDF?
The official free study packs are PDFs and include sample questions, but the full official practice tests are online, not PDF, so that the Listening audio and the clock work. Be careful with "CELPIP practice test PDF" downloads from forums: most are unofficial, and some are out of date.
Do I need to buy a CELPIP book at all?
No. The free official materials cover the format, and free practice with feedback covers the skill. Buy an official e-book if you learn best from a book, or if one skill is stuck a level below target and you want the exercises for it.
Which CELPIP book is best for Speaking?
For Speaking, a book is the wrong tool. Use CELPIP's free Speaking study packs for the format and the rated samples, then record yourself against the clock and get feedback. Our CELPIP Speaking sample answers for all 8 tasks show what a strong answer sounds like for each one.
